Social and Patient Ombudsperson

The Social Services Ombudsperson and Patient Ombudsperson advises clients, relatives and staff on matters relating to client treatment, participation and legal protection. The Social and Patient Ombudsperson is an impartial person whose role is advisory and who can also play a mediating role. The service is free of charge for clients.

The Social Services and Patient Ombudsperson:

  • Advises clients in the Central Uusimaa region on the status and rights of social welfare clients and health care patients on matters set out in the Act on the Status and Rights of Patients and advises on matters related to the application of the Early Childhood Education Act.
  • Advises and assists the client and patient, their legal representative, relative or other close person in making a claim.
  • Advises on how to lodge a complaint, appeal, grievance, claim for damages, claim for compensation for patient or medical harm, or any other matter relating to the legal protection of the client and patient with the competent authority.
  • Collects information on contacts from clients and patients, monitors the development of the rights and status of clients and patients in the well-being services county, and submits annual reports to the regional government and municipalities.
  • Acts as a promoter and enforcer of client and patient rights.
  • Does not make decisions or grant benefits.
  • Does not provide an opinion on the patient's treatment decisions or whether the treatment has resulted in harm or shortcomings.

If necessary, an appointment can be made at the premises provided by the well-being services county.

Who is it for?

The service is intended for people in public and private health and social care, occupational health care and early childhood education and for clients of HUS health social work in the Central Uusimaa well-being services county in Hyvinkää, Järvenpää, Nurmijärvi, Mäntsälä, Pornainen or Tuusula.

Telephone service is open on Mondays from 12.30 to 15.00, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8.30 to 12.00 and Thursdays from 9.00 to 15.00.

The HUS Group's patient ombudspersons provide advice on matters relating to specialised health care. You can reach patient ombudspersons from Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
