Out-of-hours emergency oral health services (HUS)

Our out-of-hours emergency oral health clinics provide first aid to patients with a dental or oral emergency. We are open in the evenings, at weekends and on public holidays, and we see patients from all over Uusimaa.

Examples of oral and dental emergencies include:

  • Dental trauma
  • Baby tooth trauma if the upper and lower teeth do not meet when the mouth is closed
  • Broken permanent orthodontic appliance that is causing pain that cannot be alleviated by chewing gum or applying orthodontic wax
  • Bleeding caused by a prosthetic or orthodontic appliance that cannot be stopped by compression
  • Bleeding from the mouth following tooth extraction or some other procedure that has not stopped after two hours despite following an emergency dentist’s instructions
  • Severe pain that does not respond to pain relief
  • Increasing swelling, redness or pain, difficulty opening the mouth (mouth opens by less than two finger-widths between the upper and lower incisors) or difficulty swallowing
  • General symptoms related to dental and oral diseases (such as fever)
  • Issues with the jaw that stop the mouth from opening or closing
  • Chipped tooth accompanied by swelling, difficulty opening the mouth or pain that does not respond to pain relief
  • Painful pressure sore caused by dentures
  • Large, aesthetically displeasing crack in a front tooth that cannot wait
  • Potentially cancerous persistent ulcer on the mucous membranes of the mouth

Please always call ahead before you visit an emergency clinic.
