112 – Emergency number in Finland

There is only one emergency number in Finland. Only call the emergency number 112 in real emergencies when you need urgent assistance from the authorities (police, paramedics, firefighters, social services). Calling the emergency number is free of charge (https://112.fi/en/erc-number).

You can call the emergency number from any mobile phone or landline without an area code. You can also call the emergency number from a mobile phone that is locked or does not have a SIM card.

If you cannot listen or speak on the phone, you can send an emergency SMS message. To use the emergency SMS service, you need to register in advance at https://112.fi/hatatekstiviesti.

If you are using a satellite phone, call +3589 2355 0545 to reach the emergency services. This number is not free of charge, and calls to it are not given the same priority as emergency calls through the telephone network.

Call the emergency number 112 when

  • you have an emergency or you need urgent assistance from the authorities
  • you know or suspect that somebody’s life, health or property or the environment is under threat or in danger.

How to report an emergency

  • Is your emergency urgent?
  • Call 112.
  • Answer any questions and follow the instructions you are given.

If the emergency number is busy, wait and do not hang up the call. Emergency calls are answered in the order in which they are received.
